OK folks, here's where we try to answer the questions we get asked on a daily basis.
This FAQ will be reviewed / updated constantly and anything we feel should be added will be. I'll also be adding a dedicated email address for FAQ's in the very near future so get yer FAQ caps on! |

How much does it cost to use the trails at Glentress / Innerleithen. |
 |
The trails are owned & maintained by the Forestry Commission, who ask a £3 per vehicle parking charge per day. Other than that, the trails are completely free to use with your own bike(s). |
 |
Can I have some change for the car park then. |
 |
Much as we'd like to help, PLEASE bring your own change for the car park!
As mentioned above, the car park belongs to the Forestry Commission and we at The Hub just don't have the facilities to provide change for the hundred's of thousand's of people who visit each year. The fee goes towards maintenance of the trails so please try to bring change with you. |
 |
What are the opening hours of the trails. |
 |
The trails themselves are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Hub Bike & Cafe obviously don't (some of them have lives - not me though!!), and have their own trading hours for Winter and Summer seasons which you can find here>> |
 |
Do I need to book bikes, how do I book a bike and how much is it. |
 |
We strongly advise booking bikes in advance. Not only is it cheaper for you, but during the Summer season especially, it gets incredibly busy here. If you've traveled a long way to ride, please don't take a chance by just turning up.
Our main hire fleet consists of Kona Caldera hardtail bikes which are capable of tackling all of the trails at Glentress. These presently cost £20 when booked at least the day before hire, or £22 on the day.
It helps us a LOT if you know the height(s) of the riders you are booking bikes for as this is how we determine which bike is best for you. Please check out our size guide here>> before calling to book.
Depending on the type of riding you intend to do, we also have a large fleet of full suspension / Demo bikes that cover pretty much all disciplines and start at £20 pre-booked for jump bikes. You can see a full list of our current Demo fleet here>>
Right now, we can only take bookings over the telephone, although we are currently testing an online system that we hope to launch in the near future.
You'll find our number at the top of the page ^^

What's the difference between a Hardtail & a Demo / Full Suspension bike? |
 |
Other than price, the main consideration when booking your bike is what you intend to do on it.
Hardtail's have suspension at the front in the form of forks, and a rigid frame at the rear - hence the tag hardTAIL. Full Suspension (full suss) bikes, as the name suggests, have a suspension system at the front AND the rear.
So which should you go for? Well, just to confuse things, some Demo bikes are also hardtail's. It's all about discipline's, but I'm not gonna try and confuse by getting into that. Essentially, if it's your first time here and you just want to explore the trails, one of our Caldera hardtail's will be more than enough to ride any of the stuff at Glentress.
If you fancy a 'posh hire' or know what you like - XC (cross country), Freeride, All Mountain, Downhill etc, then we'd recommend looking at the Demo Fleet and if you're still not sure just give us a call and we'll suss (ouch!!) out what's best for ya!

 |
What do I need to bring when hiring a bike. |
 |
First and foremost, we need you to bring some photographic ID. We will only accept a valid photo driving license or passport - no other ID will be accepted so please remember to bring these with you.
If you're under 18, you need to bring an adult to sign the hire agreement.
We provide helmets with all of our bikes. If you think you'll need further protection, a pump, puncture kit etc, please be sure to bring them with you. |
